Okuma's Andros rods were developed in concert with the Andros 5II lever drag reel as a highly advanced vertical jigging platform. The reel is astonishing, and so too are the rods. In order to shed weight without losing power, Andros rods feature parabolic blanks constructed of IM-6 graphite. Each model is crafted in two-pieces with a handle ferrule connection that delivers one-piece rod performance while allowing for easy travel to worldwide destinations. Split rear grips eliminate chaffing when employing an underarm jigging stroke. The highly custom Alps machined aluminum casting reel seat is designed for use without reel clamps. A custom locking nut secures the reel and machined finger grooves provide a positive and ergonomic grip. Completed with Alps 316-SS guide frames with Zirconium inserts, Andros rods maximize opportunities suitable for up to 50-pound braid. Great rod for the money

This review is for the A-S-602MH model, which is a 2-piece Medium Heavy spinning rod.There are two things about this rod that would turn people away: 1) two pieces 2) IM-6 blanksFirst of, this is NOT a traditional 2-piece design where you have two pieces of about the same length joined to together at the middle of the rod, which would be the rod's weakest point. This rod joins the pieces at the top of the handle, which has aluminium alloy sleeve on the outside to strengthen the join. This makes it feels and performs like a one piece rod, while allowing you to take it apart for travel. This makes it a perfect travel rod, don't turn it down just because you are a one-piece rods kinda guy.Secondly, the blanks are made of IM-6 graphite.I think this is the main turn off reason for most people. If you think that this IM-6 is the same as BassPro Shop's IM-6, you are wrong. IM-6 is not an industrial standard, one vendor's IM6 is not the same as another's. From the look and feel, this rod feels a lot better than BSP's IM7 rods that I have; I am sure that it has higher number of modulus than BSP's IM7. It would be nicer and less confusion if rod makers published the numbers of modulus than their own IM's.Having said that, this rod is a very nice, well made 2-piece rod that feels like a one-piece one. It is not the same cheap IM6 rod that you can buy anywhere for less than $25. The materials are top knot, the design is just right, it is just beautiful.To the user who complained about the larger reel seat: this is an Medium Heavy rod that is rated for 60-150# lines. This means that you have to mate this rod with big reels, 10000+; I would pair it with a Shimano Saragosa 18000.

Light and compact but sturdy enough

I purchased this vert. jigging rod mainly to use with 30-40 lb braided line as an alternative in case my main setup failed or a buddy needs to borrow. After the first trip out i was quite impressed with the action and performance of the rod. The sensitivity is great, with the low-stretch of braid line and this rod, I felt like I could feel every bump and rock anywhere from 60-200+ ft deep! And it breaks down into two pieces, which for me (i don't own a truck, so everything has to fit in the sedan) is a huge plus!One note, you have to be careful about the reel you pair this rod with. Apparently they cut the reel seat to fit larger reels or something, so not all reel foots will fit well. The first reel I tried to pair this rod with ended up having a frightening amount of horizontal wiggle room. I solve this by applying some electrical tape to better form the reel seat to the foot. I brought this up to Okuma and their customer service is friendly and willing to work with you, they offered to switch me out reels so I wouldn't have the problem. And though I don't have the new reel yet, I'm confident they'll come through =)
