Strong, powerful, and beutiful rod....

This SST salmon steelhead rod by Okuma appears to be very strong and beutifully constructed. I bought this rod because of its 15-50 lb rating, light weight and 10.5 feet length should make it a perfect casting rod for multipurposes fishing. The blank is constructed by strong IM8 graphite. However, the major problem is that the line guards are too small, making long casting very difficult due to the resistence when line passing through every one of the tiny guides. Holding a 10 1/2 foot rod, I cannot cast my lure further than a 6 1/2 foot rod. No idea why the rod was designed this way.Notes added on 12/23/2011I now realize that this is a baitcasting rod. I use this rod with my new Shimano Corvalus 401 reel, a perfect combination. I have no problem casting my bait long enough and reeling in the strong fighting 35 inches redfish. I love this rod when using it with a baitcasting reel.

Dont listen to Amoore. What kind of an idiot buys a $75 rod and expects it to be a one piece and then is upset about it? "just doesnt have the feel of a one piece rod" lol obviously! Its a 2 piece! If you want something nicer buy a Lamiglas or a Loomis and drop the extra $100. Im sure im not the first one that had this thought when reading his review. Anyway, I have a 10'6 that i use for both drifting and bobber fishing. Good backbone for such a long rod. You really cant beat it for the money. I would definately recoment it and i am actually looking at picking up a 9 footer in extra heavy for plunking. Cant go wrong with this buy IMHO.
