I have used 3 times and love it. Great for casting reel. I got the "medium heavy" model which is pretty stout. I originally had an ugly stik which was too flimsy for casting from a kayak.

Great Rod

Based on the quality of this rod it should cost 2-3 times as much as it does. It is the best rod you can buy for $40. I've got a Abu Pro Max on mine and it is my favorite setup. I've landed 7lb large mouth, feisty smalls, decent pike and many walleye on this rod. The medium heavy action coupled with the braided line lets you feel every little nibble and gives you rock solid hook sets every time.

Best little Rod out there on the market!

This little rod would have received 5 stars from me but didn't get it becasue the insertion &breakdown of the steel rod into the handle is not easy. I purchased this pole to take along with me on my backwoods excursions. I now also use it for my #1 fishing rod. It casts like a dream! This little rod casts just as far as my 6 foot pole and is fantastic when you go to a stream that has lots of trees & branches. I just wish that they would make it easier to break down. Took me forever to get the pieces to slip and lock on as well as break down. Still though is small enough that I just keep the steel rod and the handle together a s one piece verses the hassle of getting it together & breaking down.

Bought this rod about a year ago , it was the 8'0 surf rod. I got it for the striper run here in NJ. During the fall run I fish almost everyday and this was my go to rod, throwing ava 007's, crocs,A17's and some needlefish poppers.Caught many fish with this rod up to 24lbs no problem. Took it out the other day to cast to some bluefish here in the surf using a 1oz croc amd bucktail teaser above and about an hour and half into the day the rod broke in half, The rod I was using was the one piece model. I sent an email off to Tica customer service but no answer yet. So I'll say it was a good rod while it was in one piece, but don't know if I'll buy another. Think i'll suck it up and buy a St. Croix.

New Tica Dolphin conventional surf rod does not disappoint.

I received my new Tica 12' heavy conventional surf rod from Amazon becausethey offered the best price and free shipping.My first impression of the rodwas the rich blue color of the blank. The wraps were clean and well designed with no visible blemishes or misalignment. The cork tape grip was evenly wrapped and also felt good in my hands. I bought this rod primarily for Stripers coming up the East coast this past May and had several days to test it out. With a Penn Squall 15 mounted,the outfit felt nicely balanced and was not heavy by any means. The rod performed extremely well and heaved 8'n bait with no problems. Keep in mind the rod does not break down evenly and the butt of the rod does not have any guides either.I think this design may give more power in the butt end and takes the strain off the upper rod section when landing a #20+ fish on the beach.

Very nice surf rod at a great price.

This Tica Surf Casting Rod is the 3rd that I've purchased from Amazon. I have also, recently purchased 2 Tica spinning surf rods that will see plenty of action in the summer and early fall.I found that this Tica Surf Casting casts like a dream. I used this Tica rod, along with a Penn 145 Squidder conventional reel loaded with 20 lb test Ande mono, and the distance in casting heavy Hopkins Spoons from the local pier was something to see. This tica rod, along with the 2 Tica Spinning Rods will get plenty of use this summer.All I can say is the Tica Rod is 1st class and has performed exceptionally well for a heavy action conventional casting rod. Why spend a fortune for a surf casting or spinning rod when there are exceptional rods like the Tica line on the market.Shipping was very fast with Prime and all 3 rods came well packed in tubes as added protection during shipping. All I can say is this is a great rod, reasonably priced, built with quality components, and built to last.Thanks for carrying a great product line from Tica at a very reasonable price from Amazon.

Awesome rod

I understand that this rod is used primarily for saltwater jigging, however that is not what I bought it for. I spent a long time on line looking for a durable strong rod that can be broken into two peices. It needed to be stiff for casting power yet bendable and strong enough to catch big fish. The rod fits the bill for everything and it is also very light because of what it is made from. My primary uses are casting for larger inshore fish like muskies, northern, and all types of big bass. I frequent the ocean too , and wanted something strong enough for redfish, stripers, stingray, grouper, small shark etc. With this rod I personally feel like I got more than I ever wanted. Currently I have it paired with a shimano calcutta 400B and 50lb masterbraid. I am incredibly satisfied. I hope this post will help.

Great Rod at reasonable price!

This is a great rod for boat fishing in salt water. Not too long and give exceptional leaverage when fighting large fish. I hooked a 90lb bull shark and had no problems fighting it with this rod.

ugly is beautiful

Bought my first ugly stik way back in 1982 I had brtoken every other rod I bought throwing them into the back of the pick up with my 9 ft boat and trolling motor man at the store said if you break this one I will double your money backI had that rod for 20 years before it finally deteriorated from age and constant abuseThis new tiger rod is a beast love en it just need a bigger reel now it is big water all the way but you can still feel every little biteDon't waste money on big names just buy the best for your money Ugly all the way

I did some research as to what type of rod to get for catfishing and this rod is always mentioned. It seems to be very sturdy and I'm sure it will work well. It shipped very quickly and was well packaged.
