Good rods for a good price w great warranty...

This is a typical ugly stick. Just about everyone that has fished has at one point or another owned one. These rods havent really changed much over the years. The main difference with this is the blank is white an last 3 guides have a glow in dark eyelet insert. Other than that its the basically the same as the black Ugly stick of same rating. This rod is rated as a medium heavy i think its more so a Medium. The rod has sufficient backbone to deal with bigger cats but yet not overly so that a 10lb Cat can be fun. If you need to use 6oz+ sinkers an heavy baits an need to pull fish out of heavy cover quick this may not be the rod for you. It is slightly on the soft side. For that you may want to step up to the Ugly Tiger or a heavier Ugly. For general mostly all purpose the rod should be ok. One note i have heard that the eyelets tend to pop out which is a typical Ugly Stick problem. I havent owned these models long enough yet but i have other Uglies that this has happened to. For $30 bucks cant be beat i bought mine for $20 a piece of an friend. He only used them a few times so basically you can say i got one for free if you include tax. I want to add the glow eyelets at least on mine dont really glow. I heard the earlier ones actually did glow better. I have a casting model its more stout than the Spinning. I think Shakespeare designed this rod to target cats in the 10-40lb range. I dont think it was intended for heavy duty work although if you happen to run into a big boy i think the rod will hold. I have heard people hall in 60lb+ catfish with these rods. Like i said earlier i probably wouldnt recommend this model if you need to use a lot of lead an casting heavy baits or fast current. These are great starter rods if you are after flatheads an bluefish or Trophy Channels. If needed I have other stout rods but these i can throw in trunk an not worry so much about breaking one. I would like to see Shakespeare possibly release an updated model. Or possibly introducing a "Deluxe" or maybe a slightly heavy duty model. I believe this line of Rods have been out for about 7 years with no change. Might be overkill for Channel's unless you are hunting Trophies. However they make a Ugly Striper that ive heard is more limber that should be good for Channels. I havent personally handled the Striper Model to comment on the action of it though....Good luck an Happy Fising

Ugly Stik Catfish

I have 2 of these rods and they are excellent rods especially when you consider the cost. They are sensitive enough to detect the light bites yet still have plenty of backbone to keep a large catfish under control. They work great with circle hooks. I know that when the rod loads a little, the fish is hooked. I have mine paired with Okuma baitfeeders and the casting control and distance is excellent. I've had one of mine for several years and aside from from boat rash, it's still as good as the day I bought it. If you are looking for a rod to handle large channel cats and good size flats and blues up to 30 pounds this is the rod for you. It would probably handle bigger cats than 30 pounds but, I've never caught one over 30, so I can't say for certain it will handle them. I use braided line and so far the eyes don't show any sign of "braid burn".
